Laws On Fugitive Recovery Work In Ohio
by: Nicholas Getzinger
Anyone wishing to do recovery work in Ohio must become a licensed Bond agent in Ohio and may not refer to himself as a bounty hunter. Each licensed person will be registered with the state of Ohio Department of Insurance and will serve under a probation period of 6 months. There are currently actions underway to change these laws to require anyone interested in Fugitive recovery or Bail Enforcement to go through a certified Fugitive Recovery school. I have no other details at this time regarding the training. Anyone caught recovering individuals in the state of Ohio without the proper license and paperwork could be charged with kidnapping and or burglary or illegal entry depending on whether or not you entered the subjects home. If you feel you have to carry a firearm with you and you are licensed you must first qualify and pass the state of Ohio 20 hour firearms course certified by the OPOTA. An individual carrying a firearm in the course of work must be certified under this training. An Ohio CCW permit does not qualify for this type of carrying. An individual must also qualify for each type of firearm he or she will be carrying.
